Howard Slavit

Chairman Emeritus

Howard Slavit is a graduate of Tufts University outside Boston, Massachusetts and George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C.  After clerking at a U.S. court, he spent about 10 years first as a trial lawyer at the U.S. Department of Justice and then as an enforcement official at the U.S. Department of Energy.  Since then he has been in private legal practice in Washington, D.C. as an owner and managing partner of his own firm and then as a partner and Washington office managing partner ofSaul Ewing LLP, a larger U.S. law firm.  He is currently associated with the Washington office of ShawnCoulson LLP.

 

Mr. Slavit’s legal experience includes complex business litigation and also general corporate, commercial, international business, international trade and intellectual property matters.  In light of his broad legal background, he has served as outside counsel for U.S. companies  and as U.S. counsel for foreign companies doing business in the U.S. His current legal practice includes serving as a commercial arbitrator for U.S. and international disputes with the American Arbitration Association and with the CPR International Institute. He has served as an arbitrator in more than 100 cases and often has chaired 3-arbitrator panels.

 

Mr. Slavit has been associated with ILF since shortly after its founding. After chairing its Marketing Committee, Mr. Slavit was recommended by ILF’s founder, William Stockler, to serve as ILF’s Chairman. He then served in that role for about 5 years. His accomplishments included significant expansion of ILF’s membership, ratification of the network’s By-Laws, increased member referral activity and introduction of a vastly improved website.  As Chairman Emeritus, he is a member of ILF’s Executive Board.
